Inside this edition:
• Seven weeks of poker on the biggest stage in the world is all but a distant memory, as the World Series of Poker has once again broken more dreams than it has fulfilled. While we eagerly count down to the World Series of Poker World finale, we take a closer look at the possible candidates, headlined by Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, in our November Nine feature.
• We review all the action on and off the WSOP felt. From the bracelet winners to how the Aussies fared on the international stage. Joe Hachem reflects on his Vegas experience, as does mental conditioning coach Jamie Glazier who reports back on his Aussie army.
• During our time in Las Vegas, we caught up with Huckleberry Seed, just prior to his Tournament of Champions victory, as well as Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett in the middle of his stand-up comedy tour. We also feature an interview with one of the rising talents of the game, in PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst.
• The Aussies may not have had the most successful campaign at the World Series of Poker, but one look at the virtual felt over the past couple of months reveals no shortage of blossoming bankrolls. Brendan Duffy reports back on the movements in the Australasian Online Rankings. The jostle for top position continues, with Brendon Rubie locking in back-to-back $100k months to secure the spot for the time being. There will be no shortage of opportunities to challenge for the lead, as we preview the World Championship of Online Poker series.
• Champions continue to emerge on the local live tournament circuit, with familiar faces making multiple final table appearances. We bring you the latest from the tours with Julian Cohen headlining ANZPT Queenstown, Nauvneel Kashyap cashing in at ANZPT Gold Coast and Terry Tserdanis triumphing in the first local “pro-am” event, the NPL Full Tilt 500.
• The State of Origin has been the topic of much debate on the PokerNetwork.com forums, and much of the pre-game hype has been silenced by the South Australians who have validated their slogan as the Home of Poker. Despite a fierce challenge from the NSW team, the Croweaters are now two from three in the State of Origin stakes. Inside we recap the Mate versus Mate, State versus State clash as well as the first week of the Victorian Championships.
• Darwin becomes our travel focus, as the final leg of the ANZPT takes us to the “Top End”. With a bustling night market, natural springs not too far away, and some of the country’s best fishing spots, Darwin is sure to be one of the most unique stops on the tour so far. Also included in our Rollin’ section is our take on finding the perfect steak.
• Plenty of strategy tips are featured within this edition, from Shaun Deeb’s insight into representing hands, to using the post-flop three-bet bluff to your best advantage. Brett Donnelley continues to run us through the MTTs, with a focus on how to navigate through the middle stages. James “Andy McLeod” Obst also shares some ways to improve your game.
